Basics & General information

“Ergonomics” comes from Greek: “ergon” means “work,” and “nomos” stands for “law” or “rule.” Literally translated, ergonomics is “the study of the laws of work.” The goal is to promote health, well-being, and performance – through correct sitting posture, movement, and a user-oriented work environment.

An ergonomically designed workplace helps prevent complaints such as back, neck, or headaches and promotes concentration and well-being.

Many people spend more than 8 hours a day at their desks – sometimes even longer when working from home. Incorrect sitting often leads to back and neck pain. Ergonomic sitting prevents discomfort and supports healthy, dynamic working.

Find our tips for working from home here.

Ergonomic office chairs can be individually adjusted, support dynamic sitting, and prevent poor posture – unlike simple, rigid models.

Ergonomic Products & Adjustments

Seat height should be set so that your thighs and lower legs form an angle greater than 90°. The backrest should provide good support, and the armrests should allow a relaxed posture at desk height.

Your desk should be adjusted so that your forearms rest comfortably at a 90° angle on the surface without raising your shoulders.

The monitor should be about an arm’s length away. The top edge of the screen should be slightly below eye level to avoid neck strain.

Our instructional videos provide more useful tips for you.

A lumbar support (also called lordosis support) supports the lower spine and helps maintain an upright posture. This relieves the back muscles and prevents pain.

Instead of remaining rigid in one position, change your sitting posture regularly. Dynamic sitting encourages constant small posture changes. Our ergonomic mechanisms support these movements and improve circulation and concentration.

Simple: The best sitting posture is always the next one. Changing positions is key. Our Balance mechanisms support natural posture changes so you stay in motion.

Movement & Work Rhythm

Ideally every 20 to 30 minutes. Stand up, walk a few steps, or work while standing. Even short breaks or stretching exercises work wonders.
Find tips for your active break here.

Use standing phases, walk while on the phone, and consciously take short walks – small changes make a big difference. Even simple stretches or a quick walk through the office help.

Occupational health experts recommend: 50% sitting, 25% standing, 25% walking. Movement is the key to a healthy workday.

Health & Performance

A well-adjusted workstation reduces physical strain and distractions – boosting focus and mental performance.

Yes, if used correctly. Our ergonomic seating solutions support a healthy, body-friendly posture and effectively prevent overload.

These complaints often result from poor posture. Pay attention to correct screen height and relaxed shoulders. Ergonomic adjustments and proper workstation design can provide targeted relief. Simple exercises like shoulder rolls or consciously sitting upright help release tension.

Technology & Function

Our ergonomic concept includes synchro, automatic, and balance mechanisms. They support active sitting movements and relieve the spine, tailored to each work situation.

Always use an ergonomic chair and – if possible – a height-adjustable desk. Ensure good lighting, a structured workspace, and regular breaks.

Acoustics, lighting, and room layout are crucial. Ergonomic furniture that easily adapts to different user needs, acoustic solutions, and flexible workstations support concentration and health.

Get inspired by our New Work concept Dauphin Workheart when designing your perfect workspace.

Our office chairs with automatic mechanisms offer intuitive adjustment options – so changing users quickly find their optimal sitting position.

Productivity & Well-being

An ergonomically designed workplace increases well-being and reduces stress. This leads to better concentration, creativity, and performance – key factors for innovative and knowledge-intensive New Work environments.

Ergonomics and prevention are essential elements of a future-ready working environment. They strengthen employees’ resilience, improve the working climate, and directly contribute to innovation, productivity, and employee retention.

Psychosocial Ergonomics

Ergonomics includes not only physical but also psychosocial aspects: clear communication structures, regulated break times, social integration, and transparent processes promote mental health and motivation – key values of New Work.

Purchase & Consulting

Important factors are individual adjustability, body size, weight, and duration of use. An ergonomic chair offers adjustment options for seat height, seat depth, backrest, and armrests. It supports movement and adapts individually to the user. Our trained ergonomic consultants are happy to assist you.

Particularly important are: synchro mechanism (for dynamic sitting), adjustable lumbar support, adjustable armrests, and seat depth adjustment. These features relieve the back and promote healthy working.

Visit one of our Dauphin HumanDesign Centers – there you’ll receive personal ergonomic advice and can try out products directly.

Pay attention to individual adjustability adapted to your body size, good back support, a harmonious movement sequence, and your personal comfort when trying the chair.

Practical tips & trends

They can be a good supplement but do not replace an ergonomic office chair. Ideally, use them alternately to bring even more movement into your daily routine.

Flexibility and movement are in focus: height-adjustable desks, hybrid workplace concepts, and chairs that automatically promote dynamic sitting are setting new standards.
